Director, Memberships

Job Summary

The Director, Memberships is responsible for overseeing and driving memberships for conference, event, print & on-line media subscriptions among other membership opportunities.  The position will develop programs, initiatives and policies designed to drive brand recognition and increase memberships. 

In partnership with multiple product and revenue cycle stakeholders including sales, marketing and content/editorial, the position will be responsible for delivery strategic objectives and revenue across multiple membership, association programs and services.

The position will report to the President, Argosy.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Directly manage a team of conference programmers, software developers and customer relations responsible for all facets of programming, design, delivery, engagement and revenue across membership and association offerings.
  • Oversee all aspects of development, strengthening and growing membership networks, including developing both long-term and short-term benchmarks and budgets.
  • In partnership with Marketing, Sales, Editorial and Operations, develop strategies to generate revenue opportunities through the creating and delivery of marketing collateral and direct and indirect sales.
  • Ensure a culture of service to members is preserved and promoted, that membership activities and fully integrated into aspects of the association and memberships and that the strategic plan, services and programs reflect Simplify Compliance’s commitment to understanding and increasing customer value.
  • Develop, manage and report on Key Performance Indicators including, but not limited to Number of Members, Revenue, Renewal Rates, Average Member Price/Member Spend and Member Engagement.
  • Ensure membership database functions optimally for the organization, recommend strategies and solutions to staff for using data to achieve expected results concerning programming, attendance, spend and experience.
  • Provide training and development to staff as needed to drive results.
  • Plan and manage records, data collection, technology and reporting that supports membership goals.
  • Monitor contracts with external vendors, partners, topic/market experts, contractors to develop programming and experiences that maximize the value for members and generate revenue for the business.
  • Oversee the research, identification and partnerships of corporations, businesses, etc, for and event sponsorships.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Ability to travel up to 20% - 25% of the time as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned


  • Bachelor's Degree (Business, Marketing, Communications or similar)
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a B2B, for-profit memberships, certifications , MBA Preferred associations management role
  • Familiarity with JIRA, Google Docs, Excel, Gantt Charts, PowerPoint, Adobe, Word and/or other software/programs
  • Financial management skills in building metrics around product portfolio
  • Strong Communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse and geographically dispersed work environment

  • Must be well organized and able to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously with overlapping timelines and deadlines
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal and communication skills required
  • Experience with B2B media company preferred
