Editor-Military Periscope

Military Periscope (, a leading online service for accurate open-source global defense information, has an open position for a Weapons Analyst/Editor to maintain its extensive database of worldwide weapon systems. (Military Periscope is a division of CCMI, a provider of telecom data and information; CCMI is a unit of Simplify Compliance.) Our clients include military units, intelligence agencies, major defense contractors and media organization, which depend on us for coverage on the world's weapon systems and orders of battle.

Established in 1986, Military Periscope provides subscribers with current and detailed open-source information. Our databases, updated continually, cover the armed forces of every nation in the world; details of major terrorist organizations; and more than 7,000 weapon systems and platforms. Our special reports cover international developments, strategies as well as weapons programs and defense technology.

Job Description:

The Weapons Editor/Analyst will be responsible for research and writing for Military Periscope using open-source materials. Their primary focus is on researching weapon systems from around the world to create and update weapon records. Other duties include:

  • Research and compile daily defense news abstracts.
  • Research and write special reports on a variety of military, foreign affairs and defense-related topics.
  • Work to ensure all Military Periscope content is accurate, appropriate and meets our editorial style.
  • Attend conferences and trade shows on behalf of the company, with the goals of collecting information from defense firms on current and future systems and potentially writing a special report.

Experience Required:

  • General familiarity with military and foreign affairs.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite of applications.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Excellent research skills, including online research.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and to be a self-starter on research projects and special reports.

Experience Desired:

  • Grasp of international affairs and geopolitics as well as general knowledge about military organization and weapons systems.
  • Basic knowledge of HTML coding.
  • Skills in Adobe Photoshop.
